Elk Mountain Ranch is a dude/guest ranch located in one of the most scenic mountain areas of Colorado, with the largest assortment of peaks over 14,000 feet in the lower 48 states. Accommodations include six cozy, log cabins, the Elk suite and three Pioneer Lodge rooms, accommodating up to 35 guests. Many recreational opportunities are available on the ranch including: horseback riding (the most popular activity), marksmanship, trapshooting, archery, full-day whitewater raft trips with local companies, fishing in high mountain lakes and much more.

LOCATION

Sixteen miles southeast of the quaint town of Buena Vista, Colorado. Buena Vista is considered the “Whitewater Capital of Colorado” and is home to the largest collection of peaks over 14,000 feet in the lower 48 states. This tight-knit community has highly rated schools and recreational activities abound. The ranch is remotely located in the heart of the San Isabel National Forest and adjacent the Browns Canyon National Monument. There are few private inholdings in this area.

From the Denver, Colorado metro area head southwest on Hwy. 285 to County Road 307, which is about six miles east of Buena Vista. Then continue on 10 miles of dirt road south to the ranch.

IMPROVEMENTS

Guest accommodations can hold 30-35 guests and include six cozy, log cabins, the Elk suite and three Pioneer lodge rooms. All have private baths and are tastefully decorated with western décor. Each cabin has a variety of bed options, including king size beds, queen beds, full beds and a few bunk beds. All rooms have high quality mattresses and linens.

The main lodge is the heart of the ranch. The dining room can seat 42 people. The gathering area includes the bar area (BYO), a lounge room with a large fireplace, piano, library, enclosed porch and sun deck.
Staff housing for 13 employees is provided through bunkhouse, two rooms off kitchen, and three rooms on backside of Pioneer Lodge.

Adjacent to the lodge is the Trading Post where you will find the essential cowboy/cowgirl merchandise including hats, logo t-shirts and sweatshirts, fishing tackle and miscellaneous other goodies.

Main house/office has three bedrooms and two bathrooms upstairs. Downstairs has living room, kitchen and office with picture-perfect views of Mt. Princeton.

For the aching muscles, or just to relax, there is an eight person hot-tub. A Colorado Yurt company tent and deck, tucked in the aspens, provides an area for the massage therapist, yoga or reading.

A newer metal building serves as a game room (air hockey, pool, foosball, mountain bikes) on the lower level and future employee quarters on the second level.

Smaller log building provides a guest laundry room in the front and staff laundry/linen storage in the back.
Metal tool shed and lean-to (for storing two vehicles).

Tack barn and horse corrals.

For the youngsters there is an arts and crafts cabin and a fully enclosed petting zoo. Smaller stocked fishing ponds fed by Little Bull Creek.

ACREAGE

Five deeded acres. A special use permit encompasses approximately 15 additional acres. An Outfitter Permit gives the ranch 1,900 user days for riding on thousands of acres of the San Isabel National Forest. More user days may be available if needed.

FURNITURE, FIXTURES AND EQUIPMENT

Purchase to include furnishings, kitchen equipment, tools, trading post inventory, recreational equipment (guns, bikes, fishing gear). Tack and horses negotiable to interested buyer. three vans, a suburban, two trucks, a horse trailer and a tractor (all dated; but clean, well-maintained, and fully functional).

ACTIVITIES

Ranch currently operates a 16-17 week season each year. Ranch package is all-inclusive (Sunday to Sunday) offering meals, lodging and activities. Horseback riding, on an excellent, well-mannered string of horses, is the primary activity at the ranch. There are a variety of trails on the National Forest for all levels of riders and the views are spectacular. In addition to horseback riding, the ranch offers marksmanship, trapshooting, archery, full-day whitewater raft trip with local company, excursion to the Browns Canyon Ropes and Adventure Park, van trip to aspen, fishing, hiking, mountain biking, children’s program, petting zoo, basketball, volleyball, fishing, fly-fishing clinic, hayride, square-dance and local evening entertainment. ATV permits with the US Forest Service are available in this area with appropriate application
