The ranch is consists of 1,100 acres of irrigated pasture that is watered by historic decreed water rights dating back to the ranches founding . The ranch has another 600 acre of sub-irrigated pasture that is fed off seep and spring run off. Sitting at 8,000 feet the ranch produces some of the best native grass hay.
ImprovementsThe ranch has the original homestead built in the 1890’s. There is a historic home and barn and several functional outbuildings. The ranch also has a 3 bedroom, 2 bath home built in 1998. There is an excellent set of corrals and cattle working facilities.
RecreationWith almost four miles excellent fishing in this stretch of the Little Laramie River and Kelly Creek this pristine ranch offer incredible fishing. The owners are excellent stewards of the land and and there has been very limited fishing on the ranch. The Little Laramie in this area produces many fish up to and over 28 inches in both Brown and Rainbow Trout. Kelly Creek (or Spring Creek as the owners call it) also feeds into the Little Laramie and produces some amazing fish with its beautiful waters. A variety of trout including Brown, Rainbow, Brook and Cutthroat can be caught at the Flying Horseshoe Ranch. The ranch also includes a 15 acre lake that is spring fed and is 28 feet deep at the bottom.
Hunting on the Flying Horseshoe is extraordinary and offers good elk, mule deer, pronghorn and varmints. Bull elk into the 350s are taken annually. The ranch has had very little hunting pressure and this helps insure a quality herd. The ranch is located in a general unit in Wyoming so tags are available by draw. AgricultureCurrently, the ranch is running a 225 cow/calf operation year round and produces on average 650 tons nutritional, high country native grass hay.
Water/Mineral Rights & Natural ResourcesWater rights on the ranch are from the Little Laramie and they are senior rights and provide excellent ditch irrigation from head-gates. All tributary and non-tributary water rights associated with the property transfer to the buyer with land.
Region & ClimateHome to the University of Wyoming, the Albany County Campus of Laramie County Community College, and WyoTech Automotive School, Laramie sits at 7,000 feet elevation with less than 40,000 residents. The surrounding area offers year-round recreation in the Medicine Bow National Forest and Curt Gowdy State Park, to include downhill (Snowy Range Ski Area) and cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, hiking, jet skiing and paddle board, fishing, ATVing, horseback riding, and rock climbing. Laramie on average gets 12 inches of rain per year and 64 inches of annual snowfall. Summertime is beautiful with average temperatures around 80 degrees and little or no humidity. Laramie has a regional airport and is 150 miles from Denver.
HistoryThe Flying Horseshoe Ranch was settled in 1872. In the 1890’s there were several houses for owners and workers and featured a school house for the children. The ranches border has not changed since the founding. The current owner has owned it for 28 years and the ranch has been run by the same hired hand for the duration.
