In the winter, it is a popular destination for snowmobiling and cross-country skiing enthusiasts. The closest airport to Sumpter, however, is located in Pendleton, Oregon.  The Eastern Oregon Regional Airport is approximately 120 miles to the northwest of Sumpter, Oregon.
