Region & Climate Vallecito Lake, Colorado sits at about 8,000 feet in the San Juan Mountains and features a cool mountain climate with four distinct seasons. Summers are mild and comfortable, with daytime temperatures typically in the 70s and low 80s and cool evenings dropping into the 50s. Winters are cold and snowy, with daytime temperatures often in the 30s and 40s and nighttime lows frequently dipping into the teens. Snowfall is common from late fall through early spring, and the lake often freezes in winter.
