Nestled in the heart of Idaho's spectacular Pahsimeroi Valley, Rocking M Ranch represents one of the premier working cattle ranches in the Intermountain West. Framed by the rugged Lost River Range to the west and the Lemhi Mountains to the east, the ranch combines exceptional cattle country, abundant senior water rights, productive irrigated farmland, extensive public grazing permits, and outstanding wildlife habitat into one highly efficient commercial livestock operation.

Rocking M Ranch encompasses approximately 1,313 deeded acres together with over 30,000 acres of adjoining BLM and U.S. Forest Service grazing allotments, creating a large, contiguous ranch where cattle move directly from private irrigated pastures onto summer range through adjoining allotments without the expense or stress of trucking.

For generations, the ranch has been recognized as one of the premier cattle operations in the Pahsimeroi Valley, offering both outstanding agricultural production and an exceptional western lifestyle.

Water Resources

Water is the foundation of Rocking M Ranch and one of its greatest assets.

The ranch benefits from senior water rights, some dating to 1885, providing dependable irrigation throughout the growing season. An efficient gravity-fed irrigation system supplies seven center pivots, while two additional pivots operate from shallow irrigation wells, maximizing flexibility and reliability.

Approximately 140 acres encompass the wetlands and riparian corridor surrounding scenic Goldburg Creek, creating lush summer pasture while supporting outstanding fish and wildlife habitat. Goldburg Creek contributes to one of Idaho's most important watersheds for native trout, migratory birds, and regional wildlife.

The combination of senior water rights, productive soils, and dependable irrigation allows the ranch to consistently produce high-quality forage while maintaining valuable habitat resources.

Headquarters & Improvements

The headquarters has been thoughtfully developed to support a modern commercial cattle operation.

Most corrals have been reconstructed using heavy-duty drill-stem pipe, fencing throughout the ranch is well maintained, and livestock handling facilities are designed for safe, efficient cattle movement.

Improvements include:

Approximately 4,500-square-foot owner's residence

Approximately 2,000-square-foot manager's residence

Modern livestock working and handling facilities

Large equipment storage building

Calving facilities

Extensive perimeter and cross fencing

Complete irrigation infrastructure including pivots, pumps, pipelines, and delivery systems

Residences

The residences at Rocking M Ranch reflect the quality and character of the operation itself, offering comfortable living with authentic western craftsmanship.

The Owner's Residence, completed in 2018, is a beautifully constructed log and stone home overlooking the ranch headquarters. Thoughtfully designed with exposed timber, natural stone, premium finishes, and expansive windows, the home captures panoramic views of the Pahsimeroi Valley and the surrounding Lost River and Lemhi Mountain Ranges. Spacious living areas, modern amenities, and timeless western architecture make it both an exceptional family home and an ideal headquarters for ranch ownership.

The Cowboy House is an attractive all-log residence that was extensively remodeled in 2014. Offering comfortable year-round accommodations for ranch employees, family members, or guests, the home complements the owner's residence while maintaining the authentic western character of the ranch.

Both homes are in excellent condition and have been meticulously maintained, providing immediate, move-in-ready accommodations that support the continued operation of this premier cattle ranch.

Ranch Operation

Rocking M Ranch has been carefully developed for efficient, large-scale commercial cattle production.

The ranch currently supports approximately 850 mother cows, although previous management successfully operated with approximately 550 mother cows and nearly 1,800 summer yearlings. Depending upon management objectives, forage utilization, and grazing strategies, the ranch is capable of supporting 850 to more than 1,500 animal units annually.

The adjoining federal grazing allotments are a defining feature of the operation. Livestock simply leave the ranch through adjoining pasture gates each spring and move directly onto summer range before returning in the fall—eliminating transportation costs while reducing livestock stress.

The irrigated acreage provides tremendous operational flexibility. Current production includes:

Two cuttings of premium alfalfa-grass hay averaging approximately 4 tons per acre

Grass-clover fields producing 4 to 4.5 tons per acre annually

Intensive irrigated pasture capable of supporting summer yearling grazing

Winter feed production for the resident cow herd

There is ample water available on the ranch and the BLM grazing. No water has to be hauled to cattle!

This combination of irrigated hay ground, pasture, and extensive summer range creates an efficient, low-cost production system well suited for today's cattle industry.

Wildlife & Recreation

Rocking M Ranch lies within one of Idaho's richest wildlife corridors.
