Built shortly after their marriage in 1817 by Captain William D. Moore for his wife, Hannah Leonard, this farm remained in the Moore family for generations. William Moore was a cabinet maker by trade and also a breeder of fine race horses, at one time there was a race track on the property. A second story was added years later, by Thomas Moore who restored the residence and returned it to one of the most admired homes in Petersburg.
