While Kentucky's horse industry is deeply rooted in thoroughbred racing, other horses are bred and raised in the state including both Standardbreds and American Saddlebreds.
Kentucky's other Bluegrass is its music which began with people branching out and also settling in Tennessee, the Carolinas, Virginia, and West Virginia. They would write songs about their lives in the country and farming in what was then a remote territory. With the onset of country music, bluegrass stemmed off in its own right when Bill and Charlie Monroe formed their band, "Bill Monroe and the Bluegrass Boys."
