Kentucky Essentials: Bluegrass and Horses
If you're looking for farms for Sale in Kentucky you will be able to find a great property. Lexington is the Horse Capital of the World, with about 450 horse farms in the area. It is roughly 78 miles down the road to Churchill Downs in Louisville, where the Kentucky Derby runs each May. While Kentucky's horse industry is deeply rooted in thoroughbred racing, other horses are bred and raised in the state including both Standardbreds and American Saddlebreds.
Kentucky's other Bluegrass is its music which began with people branching out and also settling in Tennessee, the Carolinas, Virginia, and West Virginia. They would write songs about their lives in the country and farming in what was then a remote territory. With the onset of country music, bluegrass stemmed off in its own right when Bill and Charlie Monroe formed their band, "Bill Monroe and the Bluegrass Boys."
Kentucky's Economy & Agriculture
Besides horses, Kentucky has deep roots in coal mining and agriculture, which continue to play a major role in the state's economy.
