Architect-designed, Frank Lloyd Wright–inspired, home. This Frank Lloyd Wright inspired masterpiece, designed by renowned Architect Robert Vahlberg*, is sited just outside McAlester, Oklahoma. The back of the house, including the master bedroom, faces east so each morning begins with the sunrise over a natural scene reminiscent of “Sherwood Forest”, complete with a babbling brook, pond, and wildlife that changes with the seasons on this two acres.

This house is an impressive structure lovingly designed to intertwine with the surrounding nature, sunlight, elevation, water, stone, and human presence. Renowned architect Robert Vahlberg, a known admirer of Frank Lloyd Wright, designed the home with the same concern Wright expressed: “There must be a natural house—one that belongs to a hill as much as the trees or the rocks — and must lend a useful hand in revealing the fairness of the earth.”

The home is sited on two acres on the brow of a hill, with its walls, windows, pillars, roofs, floors, and usable spaces creating a fully realized blend of nature and shelter. Architectural Experience: The design evolves directly from nature — sun orientation, elevation, water flow, and view corridors, all principles used by Wright. Ceilings are elevated throughout the main house, especially in the Great Room, and the design echoes mid-century modern while still feeling futuristic. Upgraded to a fully modern smart-home with today’s best technology integrated within the original architectural vision.

Entry & Grounds: A long-lit fence and wrought-iron gated entrance leads to a private 3-car garage and guest facility built into the hillside with a self-designed aqueduct system channeling water beneath the home. The recreation area accommodates a pickleball/volleyball space, golf driving net, and a 40-foot scuba-capable pool.

Structural Integrity: The entire structure is built on welded steel I-beams. A feature that could be cost prohibitive to reproduce today. This elevates the entire home off the ground and into the trees giving it a commanding view of the landscape and further emersion into nature.

The Vahlberg personal residence in Forest Park, OKC, OK where the Vahlbergs lived for about 50 years was featured in American Home Magazine and was noted in Time Magazine.

He designed many commercial buildings in the Oklahoma City area and around the state including banks, hospitals and schools along with many residences.
